Shae and I met for the first time when we were probably six years old. I was just a tom boy running around with bare feet and climbing trees and he was the cutest little boy who tattled on everyone and cried, a lot. The reason why we met at such a young age was because he was the step brother of one of my child hood friends. So growing up, I would see him on occasion. I never did know him, though. In 7th grade, I moved away to Alaska and then I moved back to Oregon, and then to Washington.
2010
Half way through junior year, I moved back to my hometown and this is when Shae and I officially met... again. Shae ended up moving in with his dad and step mom the year before. So when I moved back I was still friends with his step brother and so we all started hanging out. I had a huge crush on this smokin' hot guy. Everyone told me he wasn't a relationship guy - He was a party guy. Well, I was a party girl. We started talking, a lot. The end of junior year was coming close and he was failing a couple of classes. I helped him out after school for a few weeks and we got his grades up to B's! After helping him on a math test, he asked for my number (now that he was passing his classes, he would get phone back). We continued to hang out for the rest of the school year, and when summer came we kind of confronted the "feelings" we had toward each other. He knew I liked him... everyone knew. He told me that he liked me too but he just didn't want a relationship. He wanted to be friends with benefits. (I know this sounds like it is set up to be a complete fail, but it was quite the opposite). Basically he told me that he just hadn't found the right girl, and didn't want to waste the time on a relationship. Now, to most girls, this would break their hearts, but for me, it made me determined to show him I was going to worth his while. In July, for his 17th birthday, he invited me to go bowling with him and his family. Of course I went with. I kicked his ass at bowling and apparently I passed the test for the night because he invited me to go with him and some friends to the beach. I went with. We got pretty drunk and it ended up just being me and him at the beach. We went back to his house and had sex for the first time. Actually, we had sex twice. For the entire summer we were friends with benefits. It was hard because I had started developing so many feelings. I started getting sick of just sleeping with him and not being able to call him mine. It was emotionally damaging! The worst part was everyone kept saying I was his girlfriend. He would even say that I pretty much was. But we still weren't 'official' and it really just made me angry. So I figured I would just slowly ease myself out of it. We slowly quit talking, and slowly quit hanging out. We never officially stopped but it wasn't as often.

One day that summer, I went down to the park and a few friends invited me to a party that night. I agreed to go. Shae texted me while I was there, he was on his way to his moms house. He asked what I was doing and I told him where I was and who I was with. He immediately says "tell everyone we are dating." I was completely confused because I hadn't even talked to him in a couple of days and now he is wanting everyone to think we were together? It made no sense. I asked him why and his response was "Because I don't want any of them taking advantage of you." I told him I was confused and asked if we
were dating and he says "I was going to wait until I got back home from my moms to ask you in person, but since you asked... do you want to?" I know it sounds completely cheesy and completely out of line because it was through a text for pete's sake. But I didn't care, in the slightest. I was on cloud 9. The rest of that night was absolutely terrible. One of the worst nights of my entire life, in fact. So I won't get into deal.
Still 2010
Soon summer ended and we had to start out senior year of high school. One of the things I remember most is Shae telling me that he didn't believe in love. He actually laughed about it when he heard people talk about it. But somehow, some way, he fell in love with me our senior year. We were so cute in high school. He would walk me to class every day, holding my hand, and kissing me goodbye. We would write each other cute notes in our school books. We sat together at lunch every day, or left to go have sex (one or the other). We went to all the parties together and all the games. I went to every one of his football games and cheered him on and he went to all of my band concerts to cheer me on. We made it through high school and graduated together. We celebrated our one year anniversary that summer and spent the rest of the summer with each other as much as possible. We were so in love, in every way.
2011
I left for college almost 400 miles away in September and he stayed at home. We did surprisingly well with the long distance. We made the best of it. We talked on the phone every day, video chatted, fell more in love that we ever thought was possible. He would come visit me for a week at a time or I would come home to visit on occasion. There were some bumps in the road but nothing we couldn't get through. He was my biggest support system when I was away at school. The biggest problem was him not doing anything. He just stayed home and did nothing but party, for the most part.
2012
After my freshman year of college, I moved back home that summer and again celebrated our 2nd year anniversary. I had full intentions of going back for my sophomore year, but unfortunately I did not make it into the Nuclear Medicine program and decided to stay home, go to school and get a job. Shae and I had a really huge rough patch at this time so staying home and working on our relationship, while still going to school was not the worst idea. We got through every trouble we had and were stronger than ever.
2013
Shae had enlisted into the Army and would be leaving for basic training in April. So we spent as much time together as possible. He left for Fort Benning, Georgia on April 23, 2013 and graduated on July 2, 2013. Reuniting with him was the best experience of my life thus far. Those two days together were absolutely amazing and I couldn't have asked for anything better. He is currently doing his AIT in Georgia and I am waiting for him to come home to me. We plan on getting married as soon as he gets to come home. Unfortunately, we don't know when that will be and the man still has yet to propose.
Anyway, that is how things have been the past 3 years. I know it isn't some romantic love story or anything like that but I would change anything. I am happier than I have ever been and couldn't be more excited for the rest of our lives together.
